Behind the Scenes
Hi all, my name is Nosah Chaney! I'm a senior student at the University of Michigan, currently studying Psychology, Japanese, and Writing.
When I'm not tied up with college work, I love teaching myself new hobbies and activities to get into. For the past few years, I've been enjoying teaching myself 3D animation, and more recently, game design in Unity. Aside from that, I love to dabble in creative writing, especially with magical or science fantasy--give me a story with a good magic system or fun superpowers powers, and my heart is yours. I also enjoy experimenting with what mediums I use for my worldbuilding, and I've played around with scriptwriting, field guides, research reports, and the like.
This project is a culmination of those writing interests. The idea of the Click Deer originated in a fantasy world I'd been doing some writing for, centered around an environmental phenomenon called the Fog that rapidly evolved whatever it had prolonged contact with. The Click Deer were a product of my need for some newly evolved species, and were created alongside a canivorous species of tree and a voice-mimicking parasite.
Moving into the creation of this project, I wanted to choose a storytelling medium that was more interactive than a standard literary format, and allowed me to really place the audience directly into my world. Eventually, I settled on the idea of a playable video game to capture that immersion and give my audience some control in this story. Although I'm working roughly in the environmental horror genre for this project, I don't think I have any explicit message or moral I want to lead my players to. Instead, I just hope to create a space where people can experience whatever thoughts and emotions arise when you enter all the weirdness and uncertainty of nature and the unknown. It's a space of exploration, and whatever thoughts and feelings my players uncover as they explore this small world of environmental "what-if"s is up to them.
